The old flag of Romania
Draco, the legendary Dacian flag
Romans called the old flag of Romania, the Dacian flag, Draco (meaning Dragon). Why? It looked like a Dragon and sounded like a dragon. And terrified them.

Dacian flag was a Dragon with a wolf head made from bronze or silver. The tail was a cylinder from sewed pieces of texture, having a moving snake shape. A spear thrust in the head carried the Dragon. The wolf had the mouth opened.
Through an ingenious inside system, this Dacian flag made a terrifying noise under the action of air currents. And the results were on the same scale: the sound encouraged Dacian soldiers and panicked the enemy. More, the horses were so nervous and difficult to control.

The Column of Trajan immortalized Dacian people together with their flag.
Now, where is the link with the actual Romanian flag? First, Dacian people were our ancestors. And second... the colors of this flag were red, yellow and blue.
Dacians believed in immortality. They believed this so much that they weren't afraid to confront even their God, Zamolxis.
The legend says that Dacians considered the storm a bad sign. Zamolxis himself hidden under the big black clouds and threatened the people with thunders and lightning.
Nevertheless, Dacians weren't afraid. They used to go out in the storm and shut with arrows in the clouds (their God). They did this to push their God to show his true face. And often, the true face of God showed up as a beautiful rainbow, meaning light, good weather, triumph and faith.

The rainbow symbolized the life itself.
Can you see what are the most visible colors from the rainbow? Right: red, yellow and blue, Dacian colors as well as Romanians colors.
Dacian people considered themselves as being the children of the light. Their colors symbolize the day: red for the morning, yellow for the midday and blue for the evening.
Dacian flag is a dear symbol of Romanians and this is why we call it the old flag of Romania.
